This technique presents a means of validating the contents of a read- only array during the initial diagnostic phase of a programmed device's operation. A typical application would be a micro-programmed processor, whose control program is retained in read-only storage (ROS) with a large number of bits per control word. The power-on diagnostic procedure would first verify the contents of the ROS, prior to the execution of the control program. The figure indicates the control store of a micro-programmed processor and its associated support hardware. During normal processor execution the sequencer provides an address to the control store and a read operation is executed.
