Personal computers with network interconnections to a virtual machine host computer may, by a programming package, invoke from the host such devices as disk emulation, message reception and host-command execution. The software provides an extension to IBM PC DOS version 2.0 that allows access to host system services via DOS interfaces, as shown in the figure. PC hardware requirements include at least 196K of memory, one or more diskette drives of at least 160K display and proper adapter card, and an ANR (alphanumeric replacement) card for connection to the host system.
