When a physical device such as a printer is added to a computer system, the installation procedure requires that configuration information, in the form of commands and data, be provided so that the system will recognize the added device. Some licensed program products (LPPs) and the program products of third party vendors require configuring actions for adding or modifying profiles of device drivers or managers in the operating system. What is needed is an easy-to-use approach to configure the profiles and devices associated with an LPP. To achieve this, without involving a user in a complicated set of actions on the screen, a procedure is written for every LPP requiring configuration activity. The user then has to provide minimal interaction on the screen to have configuration for the LPP to take place.
