This article describes an apparatus and method for synchronously blanking wiper from a roll of cloth-type material, orient the wiper, retain its position, and assemble the wiper onto a separate diskette cartridge half within a single machine cycle. Because of the salient growth of the computer technology, floppy disks are a widely accepted medium for information storage. To allow for low cost, high quantity diskette production, automation is utilized. Conventionally, an individual diskette is enclosed inside an envelope or cartridge. Since it is free to rotate within the cartridge, wipers made of cloth type material are heat-staked on each side of the cartridge to protect the diskette from damage.
