Abstract

To an AC plasma display panel, write and erase waveforms are generally selectively applied to those panel areas where a display is to be created or changed, while the emitted light is a function of the amplitude and frequency of a signal generally referred to as the sustain voltage. A sustain signal is applied unconditionally to the entire panel. This article describes how the erase waveform may be electronically modified and selectively applied in a way which will either absolutely or relatively raise the brightness of the selected areas. Referring to the drawing, the normal sustain signal is shown as waveform (a).
