The figures illustrate a shipping container for transporting disks or disk substrates between clean room locations without contamination. The container must provide mechanical protection of the product and must assure that clean-room conditions are maintained within the container from the shipping environment to the receiving environment. The container (Fig 1) includes a base 4 and a cover 5. Fig 3 is a longitudinal section view of the container showing the grooves 6 in base 4 which receive disks to be transported and support such disks at the outer diameter. The cover 5 supports the disks by confinement between the side surfaces 7 and assures alignment by positioning each disk between adjacent tapered ridges 9. The spaces between adjoining ridges 9 are respectively aligned with base member grooves 6.
