This article describes a thermal data acquisition and control system which consists of hardware in the form of a test facility and software in the form of a thermal testing and data processing program It provides a cost-effective and time-efficient solution for compiling, processing and reporting thermocouple temperature data in the areas of thermal design and packaging. The system disclosed herein implements software supplied with a hardware interface to the standard IEEE 488 block diagram of the system components which will support either of two thermocouple data acquisition and control units, namely HP 3497A or Fluke 2240B with IEEE 488 interface. Fig. 2 is a block diagram of the AC and DC power system utilized. AUTOTEMP is a software package developed to automate the process of thermal testing.
