Pluggable Flat Winding Coil

The ends of a flat winding coil extend from the body of the coil and are inserted into the mating receptacle openings of a printed circuit (PC) board for electrical and mechanical connection. For this purpose, the ends of the coil are bent and brought out on the same side of the coil body. For example, see primary winding 11 with its ends 1 and 2 shown in Fig. 2 of the article in [*]. The edge of each end may be contiguously straight so as to fit in one mating hole or slot of the board; or, alternatively, the end may be provided with one or more notches so as to fit in two or more holes, respectively, of the board. Pluggable inductor assembly 10 uses two such shaped coils 11 and 12 mounted on core 13 configured, for example, as an isolation transformer.
