Modular Zero Insertion Force Connector

Disclosed is a modular zero insertion force connector including several individual modules that can be snapped together in various configurations to provide electrical connectors for different applications. Referring to Fig. 1, several of the modules are illustrated surrounding printed circuit board 1 including: base unit 2, handle 3, card guide with remote handle 4, card guide with polarizing and keying options 5, and passive card guide 6. Base unit 2 contains a linear cam 7 for actuating internal contact pins. Cam 7 may be moved by handle 3 when combined in the configuration shown at the top of Fig. 1. In another embodiment, base unit 2 can be snapped to the card guide with remote handle 4, as illustrated in Fig. 2.
