Abstract

This article describes a device that unloads chips, loads and unloads billets, and removes chips for operator access during rework. To unload chips the Chip Shaft Assembly (Fig. 1) is actuated into the Chip Select Assembly (Fig. 2). The very end of the shaft (Fig. 1) has an offset slot 2 that normally mates with the offset key 3 (Fig. 2). If, for some reason, the two are out of position, the end of the chip shaft 4 depresses the key 3 against a spring 5 and actuates a switch 6on the opposite end, thereby introducing an error signal to the control system. The gear motor 7 and attached geneva mechanism 8 rotate in the clockwise direction until the key 3and the slot 2 mate, which resets the error condition and allows geneva position feedback, via the three back pressure switches 9 and series of holes on the geneva wheel.
