Contact Tab Protection for Electrolytic Capacitors

The electrolytic capacitor shown in cross-section in Fig. 1 is defective. The defect is that one or both of the contact tabs make electrical contact with the aluminum can, causing a short circuit. It is apparent that the fault may readily be obviated by physically precluding the tabs from coming into contact with the aluminum can. Fig. 2 discloses a structure wherein a shroud portion of the cover fabricated of non-conductive material positively precludes electrical contact between the tabs and the aluminum can.
