Abstract

A method is described to provide for the positioning of the "footnote" text at the end of chapters, sections, etc., as well as the end of pages and documents. In addition, it is desirable to allow end of page positioning to optionally not overflow to subsequent pages. The new annotation method supports several new locations for the annotation text within the document. Two of these locations support the "footnote" application. The first location is the "operator specified location" which allows the operator to specify a specific location within the document where the annotation is desired. This is accomplished by a new embedded command that specifies the location by its position and indicates the class or classes that are to be located there.
