Abstract

A page break algorithm is described for pages in a text processing system containing one or more annotations. The algorithm considers all the normal controls associated with footnote programs and, in addition, accommodates window processing not only in the body text, but in the annotation text as well as maximum white space specified by the operator. In addition, the algorithm supports multiple classes of annotation, each with separate formatting specification, including several totally new types of locations. The new algorithm is given control when the base paginator has filled the existing page with body text and also paginated the annotation text in a separate space (i.e., not impacting the base page).
