In plasma display devices, one area of continuing interest under review and study is a means for providing increasingly higher resolution panels without increasing the crosstalk between adjacent pels (picture elements). Various structural ways have been proposed to increase the resolution, one example being the use of shield lines between adjacent drive lines to confine discharge to the selected pel. This article proposes the modification of the system electronics to enhance panel operating parameters. The system combines refresh and sustain features in a display. To reduce the possibility of flicker while maintaining sufficient light output, a high speed write and sustain are required. Nominal values are 1 millisecond write time per quarter panel with a 240 KC sustain.
