Composite Ferrite Head

The technique shown is for fabricating a magnetic recording head of a composite design, which limits the ferrite core to the rear of the center rail, but is compatible with the processing sequence developed for monolithic ferrite heads. The previous art for producing a composite head required that ferrite cores be individually ground and positioned into a non-magnetic body which imposes physical limitations on core miniaturization. In addition, the fabrication process for such a design would be quite different than that typically employed for a conventional Winchester-style transducer so that considerable expense would be associated with conversion to the production of such composite heads.
