Abstract

The Cluster Attach Program (CAP) is a program that allows an IBM Displaywriter (DW) to be attached to an IBM Personal Computer (PC) and to function as the logical keyboard, display, and media to the PC. The attachment is via a special cable connecting between the Mag Card port on the DW and the asynchronous communication port on the PC. In the event of communication failure between the two, this method determines the cause of failure. There are regular procedures for DW operators to report hardware problems. The CE (Customer Engineer) will have to go to the customer site and run CE diagnostics on the malfunctioning work station. The CE diagnostics program then takes over the entire work station; no other tasks can be performed on the station being diagnosed.
