A technique is described whereby an assembly fixture provides accurate parts location guidance during the mating of the parts and, after the mating of the parts, provides the support needed during the ultrasonic bonding of tape cartridges. The assembly fixture, as shown in Fig. 1, attaches to a synchronous indexing machine which in turn contains the required tooling to provide the required tooling for the ultrasonic bonding process of the tape cartridge. The fixture consists of an aluminum casing 10, as shown in section A-A in Fig. 2. A contoured nest 11, as shown in Fig. 3, is mounted centrally on top of aluminum casting 10 to provide accurate part location. Chamfers on the leading edges of the nest provide guidance during the placement of the part in the fixture.
