Abstract

Fragile parts, for example, cathode ray tubes, are packaged in polystyrene packing, with several layers of part-containing packing stacked on a standard pallet. A packing supporting pallet is moved step-by- step along a horizontal feed conveyor in a queue of such pallets until it reaches an unload fixture where the pallet is lifted until the top packing reaches a predetermined position and is gripped there. A robot then removes the fragile parts which are in predetermined positions in the packing and places them in succession on a main assembly conveyor. The packing is then released and removed by the robot and placed on the previous pallet positioned at the next station of the feed conveyor.
