Abstract

The described system provides a copier function compatible with magnestylus printing technology and multiplexed magnestylus printing. The system uses the photoconductive properties of some materials, such as cadmium sulfide, to allow a current to flow which will record a pel (picture element) if used with a magnestylus printing process, or an equivalent process. Therefore, light from an original document can be channeled to a recording head using this principle to make copies of an original. Fig. 1 illustrates a copying process where channels reflected light from an original document using a fiber-optic bundle connected to a photosensitive semiconductor printhead. Each fiber will essentially control an individual pel which will vary its recording density according to the reflected light from the original document.
