Bi-Planar Stabilization of the Head Carriage of a Floppy Disk Drive

This disclosure solves the problems associated with movement of a read/ write head in the vertical, tangential, azimuth and pitch directions, due to tolerance stack-ups between the movable carriage and the carriage's stationary guide rods. Plastic head carriage 10 moves in a radial direction A, relative to a magnetic recording diskette, on metal guide rods 11 and 12. Because of tolerances between guide rods 11 and 12, and the carriage's guide rod bores 13 and the slotted guide 14, the tangential position B, azimuth angle C, vertical penetration D, and the pitch angle E of read/ write head 15 may vary. The problem becomes much more apparent when the diskette's disk drive is vibrated at a force and frequency which matches the resonant frequency of the carriage.
