General Network Transmission Line Hybrid Terminator

This disclosure describes a three-resistor semiconductor circuit structure for the precise termination of high performance transmission lines (Fig. 1). The design incorporates the known advantages of the two conventional and widely used terminators (SPLIT Terminator and Terminator To Ground). See Fig. 2. The design offers the design engineer much more flexibility. This flexibility includes, but is not limited to, power dissipation and switching activity. It permits the designer to make substantial adjustments in termination without requiring a redesign in power supply values. The range of adjustments is determined by the resistor ratios that are established to provide the desired characteristics of power dissipation and switching activity without changing the reflection characteristics.
