Abstract

Acoustic noise from within an enclosed compartment, containing a disk file and cooled by airflow therethrough, is reduced by providing the air outlet with an acoustic baffle. The baffle (shown exploded in Fig. 1) comprises a pressed steel rear cover 1 to the compartment having a rectangular air outlet 2, a pair of clips 3 above the outlet and a lower shaped surface 4 with three tabs 5. A moulding 6 of plastic material has its lower edge hooked over the tabs 5 and its upper edge under the clips 3. The moulding 6 has two air inlet openings 7 and is shaped so that, with the cover 1, it provides an air passage between the openings 7 and outlet 2 which is of continuously varying cross section to avoid resonance effects.
