Split Sample Concept

A non-destructible printed circuit board composite sample is constructed such that it can be separated to allow close inspection of plated through holes (PTHs) at selected process points (e.g., hole cleaning, plating, seeding, etc.). The test sample 1 (Fig. 1) is cut to size to fit into carrier 3. Slots 2 are provided on the ends to locate on carrier 3. One half of each PTH 4 is on each side of sample 1. When the next test sample 1 is placed in carrier 3, the stacked pair contains a full PTH 4, as seen in Fig. 2. Samples are stacked in carrier 3 and secured to board 6 by screws 5. Removing the samples and separating them allows easy access to both halves of the PTHs.
