Emulating a disk 1 of personal computer (PC) 2 on a host computer 3 permits easy backup of PC files 4 on the host disk 5, without rewriting the large disk of the host computer system. This programming package (VMDOS) effectively maintains, wholly on VM, the contents of PCVMBOND-emulated disks. Without this package a user requires a PC connected to VM and the PCVMBOND product. The user must then perform all of the command transactions across this connection, which may be slow, unreliable, or even unavailable . This program provides a complete implementation of the file-oriented commands of PC-DOS as well as additional maintenance-oriented commands and runs as a user application under VM/CMS.
