Abstract

A damping layer of neoprene-type material is disposed over the top layer of a membrane contact switch assembly of a membrane keyboard so that a pivot plate of each key of the keyboard engages the layer of neoprene-type material to reduce both the noise level and the bounce of the contacts of the membrane contact switch assembly. A damping layer 1 of neoprene-type material is attached to a top layer 2 of a membrane contact switch assembly 3, which is supported on a metal base plate 4. When a key 5 of a keyboard is depressed to pivot a pivot plate 6 to cause a contact 7 of the membrane contact switch assembly 3 to engage a contact 8, the pivot plate 6 is moved into engagement with the layer 1 of neoprene-type material.
