Abstract

In plasma display panel fabrication, the step of edge sealing the glass plates incorporates the use of seal glass standoffs to avoid subjecting the green seal rod material to the weight of the upper stages of the seal fixture prior to reaching the seal rod reflow temperature. The seal fixture comprises a lower and upper plate and an associated weight platform, as described below. Referring to Fig. 1, to edge seal glass plates 1, 3, as the seal fixture and its associate gas panel assembly proceeds through an in- line furnace (not shown) seal glass slugs 5 soften and gradually apply the weight of the fixture associated with plate 1, shown as weights 7-10, to the panel assembly members 1, 3. As the temperature increases, the seal rod material (not shown) begins to reflow and sealing takes place.
