This method of fabricating plastic cover panels for main frame computers allows their production with shielding, color, texture and surface gloss, performed in one closely controlled operation. These panels, unlike sheet metal covers, are light in weight and economical to produce in large volumes, while providing necessary shielding. This process, as shown in the drawing, utilizes pre-colored thermoplastic that is fed through an extrusion die 1 and has a uniform texture and gloss applied with embossing roll 2. Heating the embossing rolls eliminates any sink marks or flow lines while providing improved surface definition. Located below the embossing roll is the laminating roll 3which applies the shielding foil 4 to the back side of the cover, thus providing complete EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) coverage.
