This File Maintenance Program (FMAINT) is an interactive utility which operates on the Personal Computer. It allows a user to create and maintain Personal Computer files for the IBM Business Management Series of programs and similar programs as long as the file which the user wishes to create complies with the architecture of FMAINT. The architecture requires the file to have an active record code as a method of determining the status of a record. The active record code must reside in any byte between 1 - 255, inclusively. FMAINT uses an indexed sequential access method (ISAM) for generating keyed files. The files are based on field definitions within a specification file which contains the characteristics of each field, the name of each field and the row and column the field is displayed on when updating the file.
