A tapeswitch sensor is mounted on the work-carrying fixture of a robot arm in such a fashion that it interrupts the robot's motion to prevent personal injury or damage to the mechanism in the event of unwanted contact during motion. The tapeswitch 1 (Fig. 1) is mounted on a plate 2 (Fig. 2) that is suspended on springs 3. The tapeswitch 1 extends beyond the part carrier 4 on all sides. If the tapeswitch 1 comes into contact with any object with a resultant force of approximately eight ounces, power is automatically cut to the robot drive.
