The assembly of flatpacks to printed wiring boards in an automated flatpack-mounting system is accomplished using an aligner that utilizes a simple linkage and slide arrangement. The flatpack 1 is engaged by teeth 2, 3 of aligner 4. Teeth 2, 3 grip flatpack leads 5. The aligner 4 moves the flatpack 1 into the desired X, Y and rotated axes for delivery to the mounting head (not shown). The teeth 2, 3 are actuated by a nylon cord 6 that is fixed at one end by a fastener 7, travels over two rollers 8, 9 and is secured on the other end by another fastener 10 mounted on a slide 11. A lever (jaw) 12 is carried by pivot 13, and lever 14 is carried by pivot 15. Links 16 and 17 are pivoted between levers 12, 14 and connected to them by means of pins 18 and 19. The links are connected by means of a pin 20.
