An arrangement is described for tensioning a timing belt. The arrangement, shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, involves the use of an integral bottom cover and sideframe 10 molded from polycarbonate. Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 show top and side views, respectively, of the left sideframe 10. An arm 14 is molded out of sideframe 10. Arm 14 and sideframe 10 are both notched with small pitch teeth 19 that mesh with similar teeth 18 on the surface of elliptical expander 13. Pulley 11 is mounted on shaft 16 with bearings 17 as an assembly. Belt 12 mates with pulley 11. By external rotation of elliptical expander 13, the distance between sideframe 10 and shaft 16 can be changed, causing a change in belt tension.
