This article describes a color image scanner wherein the envelope of a lamp illuminating a color image document is coated with a mixture of red, green and blue fluorescent material. The blue fluorescent material provides a relatively short persistence, the green fluorescent material produces a relatively long persistence, and the red fluorescent material provides a medium persistence. The reflected light from the color image document is sensed by a photosensor array which is applied with three sample pulses, the timing of which is adjusted to sample the reflected light of the three colors, respectively.
