Abstract

The present method provides diagnostic which does not require user interaction except on the first and last passes and which uses an Expert System Rulebase. The present method allows the user to put the machine into a loop mode and then leave the machine in an unattended state while testing. The present diagnostic has looping capability and can be used to diagnose intermittent problems. The loop mode of the present invention consists of four states: 1) Entering Loop Mode state which indicates that the first pass of loop mode is active. The entering loop mode is used to indicate that all user setup that is required for testing, such as inserting wrap plug, loading paper, etc., should be done. It also indicates that no clean-up should be done since the test will be repeated.
