Modular Cooling Unit for Data Processing System

Water is chilled and circulated through components of a data processing system by a number of cooling modules that can be located in a common enclosure or can be located separately in enclosures with the components that are to be cooled. If more than one module is used in the system, the modules are interconnected in a parallel circuit, and enough modules are provided to keep the system operating if one module becomes inoperable or is removed from the system. A module has a heat exchanger, a sump, and a pump located in the sump. The water is chilled by the heat exchanger. The supply piping from the pump carries chilled water to a water-cooled component, and return piping brings heated water from a water-cooled component.
