Abstract

A method is described to write an Expert System (ES) Rulebase to control and analyze the execution of a Network Adapter (NA) diagnostic test in a problem determination environment. An ES is an application of artificial intelligence that attempts to mimic the reasoning abilities of a human expert when solving a problem in a specialized subject area. An ES separates the general knowledge about the problem (rulebase) from information about the current problem (data) and methods for applying the knowledge and data to solve the problem (the inference engine). A Rulebase consists of all the knowledge that a human expert would need to deduce conclusions about a problem. The Rulebase contains facts as well as heuristics or "rules of thumb".
