In order to determine the formation of a stress pattern and the fringe order at potential points it is necessary to observe the growing or changing stress pattern under smoothly and gradually changing loads. Frequently it becomes desirable to adjust the load to obtain a particular fringe order at a point. A simple and reliable way to obtain such loading is by means of a strain frame. The design shown here applies the load in a compression form and is usable with macro-specimens.
