Printer Carriage Spacing Test

A determination of the performance capability of a printer carriage driving mechanism can be made by measuring the consistency of an output shaft over several spacing operations. A voltage transducer can be mounted on the output shaft and the time measured from the "start" signal until zero velocity is first reached after the issuance of the "stop" signal. If this time is consistent within a predetermined tolerance, as required, and if other parameters are acceptable, then the unit can be accepted. When the time to zero velocity crossover varies widely, the carriage will operate unreliably.
