Abstract

Electrostatic discharge (ESD) sensitive parts have been protected by a combination of passive and active on-chip circuits, and by restricted handling procedures within well controlled environments. The advent of consumer pluggable field-effect transistor (FET) technology modules has eliminated restrictive handling in a well controlled environment as a means of protection for ESD sensitive parts. Destruction of a single packaged FET will occur if a voltage in excess of the gate oxide breakdown voltage is applied between the gate and drain, gate and ground or gate and substrate terminals. The ESD resistant connector system protects package FET devices by providing a means of shorting the input pins until the device is plugged into a card or equipment. (Image Omitted)
