The phenomenon of screen-retained images caused during burn-in of a CRT or as a result of the extended display of a quiescent screen or message during normal operation, etc., can be overcome by feeding supply voltage to the CRT but interrupting the horizontal sync and video signals. The video is replaced with a constant DC level which causes constant illumination over the face of the CRT.
