A robotic mass transfer tool can carry and accurately place quantities of parts
instead of tediously picking and placing one screw at a time, saving cycle time
and expensive additional equipment.
Referring to the figures, the transfer tool grips screw 11 just beneath their
heads. Angular teeth 12 center and lock the screws into the correct position for
insertion into their holes and act as lead-ins for screws of various sizes. The
tools has prongs 13 on either side that locate in holes in the robot's fingers 17,
enabling the robot to hold the entire tool firmly and control its exact orientation.
Springs 15 provide an outward force to the inner sides of the tool, securing the
sides against the robot fingers 17, allowing the teeth 12 to open smoothly when
the sides open. Rods 16 provide constant alignment with the robot sides while
they are opening and closing, effected by the robot's fingers 17.
