Abstract

In a display word processing system, there is a dedicated message line capability. On occasions, the display which is the word processor is also used to display other information. When displaying such other information, should it become necessary to display a message, then the entire screen becomes frozen, after which the line on the screen which is to be occupied by the message line is removed and its contents stored off the screen. The message is then displayed on the message line which becomes available on the screen, after which the data representative of the removed line is taken from storage and is redisplayed.
