A technique is described whereby a female phone jack receptacle, used to provide voltage and signal connections through a male receptacle connected to telephones or modems, is designed with a partition within the receptacle. This partition provides a safety element so that when the male connector is not plugged in, fingers or devices such as test probes, cannot contact the voltage and signal elements of the female jack.
