This article describes an automatic sheet feeder in which a feed nip is formed by forwardly rotated feed roller and reversely rotated roller, the feed roller is provided with a frictional member on a portion of its periphery, and the feed roller is activated one revolution when the existence of the sheet in the upper stream is sensed and the non-existence of the sheet in the down stream is sensed. Referring to Fig. 1, all rollers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 except rollers 7 are continuously rotated. Fig. 2 shows the arrangement of the rollers 3, 4 and 7. The rollers 4 are fixed to a shaft 9 which is continuously rotated by a motor (not shown). A hollow shaft 10 on which the rollers 7 are fixed is rotatably mounted on the shaft 9. A shaft 11 on which the rollers 3 are fixed is rotatably coupled to the shaft 9 through gears 12 and 13.
