Data Encryption Algorithm Key Distribution Via Public Key Algorithm

This article discloses a method of Data Encryption Algorithm (DEA) key distribution in a satellite network using a public key algorithm. Ordinarily in a satellite network with an encryption capability, data keys are distributed from a central node to the other nodes in the network via encryption under relatively permanent key-encrypting keys. These key-encrypting keys themselves are typically generated at a central site and distributed by using a courier. In contrast, the scheme of this article allows these key-encrypting keys to be securely distributed via the satellite network by employing a public key algorithm. The diagram shows a satellite network composed of a satellite and several earth station nodes.
