The present code scheme minimizes errors in impulse noise prone transmission media. Fluorescent lights emit a characteristic repetitive impulse pattern in the infrared region. This impulse pattern can be picked up by sensitive IR receivers with an amplitude nearly equivalent to the IR signal, and can cause transmission errors when conventional coding or carrier modulation schemes are used. The present method is directed to an impulse noise tolerance burst coding scheme to reduce the errors from interference by impulse patterns.
