A Conservation Method for Packet Voice Systems

To transmit voice on a digital system, the analog voice signal is sampled and digitized at successive intervals of 125 microseconds. The procedure described here yields a system where unexpected events (e.g. network errors or delays for network recovery) do not cause the number of samples awaiting conversion in the receiver to grow beyond a fixed and manageable bound.
