Abstract

Repeated action of a valve stem against the gate orifice it controls tends to enlarge the orifice and create a rough lip on the exit side of the opening. When the gate is part of a finished cavity surface, e.g., for injection molding, repair by welding and machining causes sinking of the cavity surface around the gate, which is generally as unacceptable for high quality molding as was the former worn, rough condition.
