A flexible disk bonded for rotation on a base has a pleated flexible dust cover for protecting the disk when not in use. As the cartridge is inserted into a flexible disk drive (not shown), a detent on the drive engages the front end of the pleated cover. As the base is inserted further into the disk drive, the pleated cover tends to fold in bi-fold, as shown in the top portions of the sketch. When the cartridge is fully inserted, the recording surface of the disk is exposed for transducing operation while the pleated cover is fully bi-folded at the rear end of the cartridge. Actually, the pleated cover need not be folded further than point A just beyond the center of rotation B of the disk. Point A is near the innermost radial record disk.
