Connector 10 (Fig. 1) is psrt of a system for aligning the butt ends E of two fiber-optic strands 1, 2 to be connected. For this purpose, connector 10 has two mating halves 10A, 10B with dowel plate members 11, 12, respectively. Members 11, 12 are affixed to respective L-shaped identical blocks 13, 14. Member 11 and block 13 have a pair of aligned counterbores 15 for receiving the pair of dowel pins 16 of abutting member 12. Aligned V-shaped grooves 17, 18 are provided on the respective co-planar top surfaces 11A, 12A, 13A, 14A of members and blocks 1114. Grooves 17, 18 act as seats for strands 1, 2, and the side walls of grooves 17, 18 are configured substantially tangent to the strands 1, 2, such that the top of the strands 1, 2 protrude slightly above the coplanar surfaces 11A-14A when seated in grooves 17, 18.
