Disclosed in Fig. 1 is a section of the support portions of the upper ball socket of a single-element typewriter. The tilt ring 10 supports, through a bearing surface (not shown), the upper ball socket shaft 12 for rotation therein and for tilting therewith. In order to properly align the type element which attaches to upper ball socket shaft 12, so that the character is in the proper right to left position, it has been customary to shift the yoke 14. This adjustment can become cumbersome and is not always extremely accurate.
